Walk with us
Move your thinking forward. Ground your leadership in nature.
Some of the best conversations happen side by side, not face to face. When we walk together in nature, something shifts. The landscape opens us up. Movement loosens our thinking. Fresh air clears our perspective.
Walking and talking is not just a change of scenery. It is a change of mindset. When you step outside the office, you step outside familiar patterns. The rhythm of walking creates the rhythm of conversation. There is no pressure to maintain eye contact, no boardroom table between you, no screens to distract.
Leaders tell us that their best thinking happens in motion. Problems that felt stuck begin to shift. Conversations that felt tense become more open. Teams that struggled to connect find common ground.
In nature, these things emerge naturally. Walking with us creates the conditions for trust, connection and shared growth.
Why Walk and Talk?
Walking forward helps us think forward. Physical movement activates different parts of the brain, opening up creativity and problem-solving in ways that sitting still simply cannot.
Nature Restores Perspective
Being outdoors reduces stress, improves focus and reconnects us to what matters. The natural world reminds us we are part of something bigger than our immediate challenges.
Side by Side Opens Up
Walking beside someone rather than sitting opposite them changes the quality of conversation. It feels less confrontational, more collaborative. Defences drop. Honesty emerges.
Shared Experience Builds Trust
When teams walk together, they share more than conversation. They share weather, terrain, laughter and silence. These small moments build the trust that transforms working relationships.
Fresh Air, Fresh Thinking
Oxygen increases blood flow to the brain. Natural light regulates our mood. The break from screens and buildings creates space for reflection, insight and genuine connection.
Time to Think, Time to Feel
Walking gives us permission to slow down. To pause. To notice. Leadership is not just about thinking, it is about sensing, feeling and being present to what is happening within and around us.
The Science Behind the Walk
Forest Research found that spending just 30 minutes a week in woodlands has a significant impact on mental wellbeing, and that even brief moments in nature can be beneficial.
Stanford University research demonstrated that walking boosts creative thinking by an average of 60% compared to sitting.
University of Michigan studies show that walking in nature improves memory and attention span by 20%.
Walking side by side, rather than face to face, has been shown to create more open, honest dialogue, particularly when discussing difficult topics or exploring new possibilities.
But the science only tells part of the story. What matters most is what leaders experience: clarity where there was confusion, connection where there was distance, courage where there was hesitation.
When we walk in nature with intention, we create space for the Collaboration Equation to come alive, not as theory, but as lived experience.
Curiosity, Care and Courage in Motion
Curiosity
Walking invites wonder and wondering. The landscape changes with every step, reminding us to stay open to what we might discover about ourselves, each other and the challenges we face.
Care
Nature softens us. When we walk together, we notice how someone's pace changes, when they need to pause, and what their attention is drawn to. This attentiveness to each other is care in action.
Courage
Stepping outside, literally and figuratively, takes courage. Walking side by side makes it easier to voice what is difficult, to explore what is uncertain, to take the next step forward.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Walk and talk coaching is a style of coaching conversation that takes place outdoors, often in nature, where the coach and client walk side by side rather than sitting face to face. The movement, fresh air and natural environment create conditions that support open, honest and reflective conversation. Leaders often find that the physical act of walking helps them to process more clearly, speak more freely and think more creatively.
-
Our leadership conversations take place in the beautiful countryside of Sussex and Surrey, including along the South Downs. We also work with executive teams in locations across the UK and can help you identify an outdoor space that works for your team. For virtual sessions, each person walks in their own location, connected by mobile phone, which works beautifully and brings the same benefits of movement and fresh air.
-
Not at all. Our leadership conversations are designed around your needs. If walking is not accessible or comfortable for you, we can sit outdoors together instead. The important thing is being in nature and in conversation, not the distance covered. We always check in ahead of any session to understand what will work best for you.
-
Absolutely. We regularly work with executive teams, inviting people to pair up and take a question, thought or challenge for a walk together. This approach can ease what might feel like a difficult conversation into something more open and collaborative. Teams often tell us that the conversations they have on a walk go further than those they have in any boardroom.
-
Virtual walk and talk sessions work beautifully. Each person walks in their own location, connected by mobile phone. There is no need to be in the same place. We typically combine this with a first and final session via video call so we can properly introduce ourselves and close the work together. Many clients find this format offers real flexibility without losing any of the benefits of being in motion and outdoors.

The Collaboration Equation is built on three mindset and behaviours: Curiosity, Care and Courage. Together, these create the conditions for trust, psychological safety and collective success. Missing just one of them impacts our ability to trust and be trusted. When all three are present, people contribute more fully and results improve. This is Collaborative Edge. Walk and talk coaching is one of the most powerful ways we help leaders bring this to life, not as theory, but as lived, felt experience.
-
This is the UK, so it would be remiss not to mention it. We plan sessions with the weather in mind and are always prepared for whatever the day brings. Many clients find that walking in wind, rain or dramatic skies adds something to the conversation rather than detracting from it. We will never leave you unprepared and always have a plan for whatever conditions arise.
